Health and the Urban Environment

The Ontario College of Family Physicians The Ontario College of Family Physicians has released a literature review that explores public health and the built environment in Ontario. Their web site also features a series of brochures that provide straighforward explanations of the health, environmental, and social impacts of urban sprawl.

Transportation Research Board Special Report 282 Transportation Research Board Special Report 282: Does the Built Environment Influence Physical Activity? Examining the Evidence reviews the broad trends affecting the relationships among physical activity, health, transportation, and land use; summarizes what is known about these relationships, including the strength and magnitude of any causal connections; examines implications for policy; and recommends priorities for future research.

Alberta Centre for Active Living The Alberta Centre for Active Living web site contains extensive resources on many aspects of physical activity, including information about the centre’s work, news, centre publications and research, links to resources from other organizations, the catalogue and recent additions to the centre’s Resource Library.
